In this video we try diagnose the ongoing issue with my 2023 BMW M1000rr. The rear end is super chattery while traveling at speeds less than 70MPH. It makes the rear end feel super unstable and honestly makes me lose confidence in the bike while riding it. We've tried the following things, but they have not halped:
    Clean lubed adjusted chain
    Cleaned axle, spacers, mounting points
    Retorqued axle/ lubed

    Rear linkage check/ retorque
    Set race sag
    Carbon wheel inspection

Hey, I’m a BMW Product Specialist in North America. Here are a few things that could make the bike feel weird for you.
Make sure the wheels are properly balanced and on factory spec pressures
Make sure all suspension components and frame components are properly torqued. It’s possible the front end could cause the rear to feel weird. This was the fix for my M1000RR feeling too stiff in the rear, the front was too stiff.
Check the wheels, make sure there isn’t premature wear.
It’s possible the chain or sprocket could be a problem too.
Make sure the swingarm is not damaged or warped.
Check the brake rotors for warped form or damage.

Also, back in the day my friend did a chain and spocket conversion on a 600cc yammie putting a 520 chain/sprocket on it which caused vibrations. On my 05 GSXR 1k I had I changed the front sprocket from stock to 1 tooth down for drag racing. The stock sprocket had rubber on it to help with vibrations and smoothness. The after market sprocket was way more clatchy and ruff and there was a lot of more vibration. Hate to see you ditch it for something that I am sure is an easy fix.

Well well. Lots of people telling you to sell. But do they got the same bike since they know that Honda and BMW is almost the same? Thats the biggest BS ever. I got the M1000RR myself with a ton of mods and tune. Had some chattering, but that came on my bike after 2000km. Had the bike at the shop and they found out the chain had a 20mm+ stretch. I upgradet the sprocket and gears and went with a 520 racing chain instead and now the bike is way more responsive and way faster in the low end. It has meant that I have to clean and lube the chain more often but.. its a carbon bike so I do that anyways. Less rotating mass now and less vibrations. Sure id love to also have a Honda, ridden both of them, but the leg positioning while riding for a taller rider is less agressive and better on the BMW. Electronic wise, the BMW is still far better when it comes to comfort solutions or rider assist. But both bikes are unique for what they are. Its simple, i do not expect BMW to make a bike that feels like a Honda or another japanese bike. That would be like Harley making a bike feeling like a triumph. The brands just do not want their bikes to feel exactly like their competition. Then it would be no point or make no sense. Be patient with the bike, and do the right upgrades and enjoy it! In the meantime put the ride time into the other bikes. After all we love to see you on all your bikes anyways. And btw business wise, if you ever want to work with the brand again, keep the critisism constructive and polite. Cause no brand that gets pissed on in these types of RUclips Channel videos will do you any extra favors. Dont think that will be any issues for you and your channel. It is strictly meant as a pointer for the people commenting these videos. When I grew up I learned that you never shit or piss where you sleep or where you eat. People got to undestand that this is one of your incomes. Nothing to get played with. Have a nice one, love your videos.

I can assure you that what you are experiencing is absolutely normal… All BMW motorcycles have a slight vibration either in the handlebars, the foot pegs or the rear wheel. Chain and sprocket adjustment is very crucial to minimize what you are feeling. I recommend you go to a completely different dealership and test ride the exact same bike save yourself and aggravation. Once you can accept this slight vibration it actually gets a lot better as you put miles on the bike, I love your content, and I think you are absolutely one of the best on RUclips. Same thing was happening to my H2 and Travis swapped out the rear hub. I'd check that or maybe if you hit a pothole too hard the rim itself is no longer circular. Easy way to test that is put it on a jack stand and set a fixed point on the rim to see if the rim moves out of the fixed point when you rotate it.

I remember a similar problems on the previous gen s1000rr because of the electonic suspension and for racing use had to be replaced because that would shake like crazy leaving turns, bmw has a problem with suspensions both front and rear, that sure is uncommon, but maybe the shock is having some kind of leak of gas not oil it is pretty messy to deal with bmw bikes, there is usually some kind of issue with them

  • @richardbennett3281

World wide ceramic bearing if you haven’t changed the bearing yet. Check the inside of the wheel for any deformations (common when street riding carbon wheels), check to see if the sprocket is on straight if it was torqued on improperly then it could have a wobble that could cause the chattering, check the caliper piston as well. If it’s sticking (frozen) and it’s pressing on the rotor it could be fighting the wheel. It’s hard to diagnose what it could be without being there or riding the bike but those are just something’s to think about

  • @TallSpirit
    @TallSpirit 16 дней назад

If the problem began to occur when you changed out the rear shock then it may be a faulty rear shock that was installed. Especially if you are experiencing a “chatter” even after the suspension tune. Sounds like the shock is not dampening that rear wheel. I’d try to see if you can have the shop swap it with a different one.

I think you might be getting some rim resonance, but that is hard to measure. At the same time crank up the rebound dampening, that will keep it from bouncing UP as much. A soft rebound is hell on a chassis and the riders butt. Crank the rebound up until it NOTICEABLY slows down, then try it again.... like 3-4 clicks from maximum, then reduce from there. Do the same thing to the front as well. You want a VERY slow extension of any shock on that bike to absorb the rebound and any kind of rebound hop or resonance associated with bumps or tar strips. Your shocks and tire patch can oscillate 3-4 times from a single road imperfection. You won't see it, but you WILL feel it. Cranking up the Rebound dampening will help stop that. BOTH ends. You'll feel it in the rear, but both ends have to be stiffened equally for best performance and ride quality.

Check for stuck links and excessive play in the chain components. On a bike this new unless you got the chain soaking wet and let it rust it's probably not the issue, however, I just changed the chain on my bike after all kinds of weather and commuting and track days and it cured my vibration and oscillating problem I had. My bike is butter smooth now and my issue was gradual so I didn't take it into account until it got really bad.

I got a 2024 S1000RR in February, I’m not the kind of guy to buy something and not use it, I live in Wisconsin and couldn’t ride until late April. From then tell now I’ve already put 4000 miles on the bike and I have had nothing but problems. 1 major and the rest minor, but non the less for the $25000 I paid outright being only 19 for a month it’s frustrating. My major issue is with my quickshifter, no mater what I do what RPM I shift at and almost any gear always it false naturals itself when I use the quickshifter. Whether it’s at 4K RPM or when I’m going well over 100 MPH it false neutrals. I brought it to the #1 BMW Motorad dealership in the United States and they can’t find any issue with the bike itself or the quickshifter. On top of that I’ve had smaller problems such as repeated reminders under braking that my taillight is faulty, when everyone I ride with says it’s always working. Whenever I wheelie I get a warning saying my SOS is Unavailable and now my brake lever doesn’t actuate until it is already touching my fingers on the throttle. It’s horrible. I took a risk buying such an expensive toy at 19 with more than half the money I had saved up, and it’s given me nothing but problems. I love my hobby and don’t plan on stoping riding anytime soon, but this bike is just not doing it for me and making me dislike riding. The only other bike I was truly interested in was the RRR SP, and recently one popped up near me around the same mileage but a 2021. After everything I’ve done to the bike I will take a massive loss with this decision, but I think I’m going to trade straight up for the SP to preserve my love for the hobby.

I would say the tire became out of balance by another cause, 2 rear shocks leaking would cause the tire to bounce and become out of balance, why did no one check the tire balance on the old tire? I believe your static sag is off or was off and the rear shocks caused the rear tire to go bad. BUT there is something else wrong and I would go through rebound and damping on the front then snap a line on the floor and check front to rear alignment. I think and it is just a guess> your alignment from front to rear is off causing the geometry from front to rear to be off and the rear is offset from the front making the rear trying to play catchup with the front> gives you feed back. another thing to check is rake and trail on the front. The bike has an issue with geometry that is why the rear is blowing shocks. Putting a new tire on is only a bandaid. Talk to some crew chiefs that have raced bikes for years. You have connections

So just going based off experience with cars. Since you already changed the tire, I’d see if the rear wheel is out of round at all or out of balance. Which I’m sure if he changed the tire, he made sure it was balanced. Could be either sprocket or the chain having a “kinked” link or two. If all that is good, only other thing I could think of is wheel bearing or rotor. Hopefully you can get it sorted out!!

Benefits of the Kawi FULL Titanium system from the factory, even the headers, easy to remove CAT because Kawi knows their buyers, Marchesini forged wheels, cruise control AND heated grips! Not to mention way more comfortable than the RR-R.
Kawi also probably has the best OEM tuning catalogue with a whole slew of engine internals and track parts.

I don't think you know how good the RR is, it's a $31K bike and rivals the V4S SP2 with the race Tune on regular 93 Octane with a basic tune and slip on. A decat + M4 Slip-on + high flow filter usually gets around 199-204whp depending on the tuner that's like 220+ at the crank.

I mean D is coming from a BMW which has the most "boring" liter bike engine out there. Boring really just means smooth and composed without any quirkiness which some people really love. S1K's feel like rocket ships because of that, you'll be going 100+ and won't even feel like it and remember he's considering a CBR1000RR-R any standard i4 liter bike gets labeled "boring" nowadays because we have the crossplane from Yamaha and the V4's from Aprilia and Ducati which all rumble and bark.
A ZX-10RR will have way more character than the M1000RR but still have all the creature comforts D has likely grown to love unlike the others. Trust me cruise control is a game changer on a liter bike!
It also has completely redone internals that are ready for tuning and more power unlike the blown M1 and RR-R you see.
Hell both 44Teeth AND Yammienoob had their bone stock RR-R's explode and stop working.
The Yammienoob instance was pretty infamous because they caught it all perfectly on camera because Yam was behind Spite who was riding it when it happened. As for 44Teeth it was in their Isle of Man liter bike comparison video from a few years back. I think the poor guy is looking for a new bike that won't be plagued with issues. The M1K and RR-R are both dream bikes but issue free they definitely aren't.

Not sure how much aftermarket you have on in the rear but you may just need to reset and go to OEM parts and specs. Add a component back each time and see if you can pinpoint it. There's a possibility too if you have less bushing/dampening it's just increasing your NVH. Does the rear wheel also have like a shock absorber in the hub? I know on my R6 there are rubber bushings to help with the drive harshness and shock to the rear wheel from the chain. I've only been around bikes a couple years but like to wrench where I can. I'm sure your tech is phenomenal though.

  • @ashleyaries9299

My 1st thought was the bad suspension initially caused uneven wear on the rubber. But now that it's a new tire and still doing it, why not just go with another tire all together? You can always throw those tires on your R1 or w/e when its time for new rubber.

Try coasting in neutral and see if it persists. Sounds to me like the motor is twitchy and is causing vibrations back through the frame etc. maybe the carbon fiber is resonating a bit as well. I wonder if you had a mellow fuel map on the bike if it would calm the vibrations. maybe the chain is too tight and isn't helping the issue. Try a different rear tire? maybe the rear tread is making it bad.

  • @apit_zixxer

IMHO, just swap the whole rear swing arm assembly (swing arm, chain, sprocket, rear tire+rim, rear shock, etc) with another bike, and test ride if it happens again.. this is just to isolate where the chattering comes from, instead of spending cash, try and error replacing parts.. might cost a bit in labor, but it will helps to narrow down and save time when troubleshooting it..

Hence it's still occurs, I guess with the new tire they did check the alignment in the back. That it's similar on both sides so your tire is straight and the chain is straight as well. First thing that comes in my mind.
It may loosened up while riding for example and is slightly adjusted the chain/tire being straight.

Just in the way you can literally hear it pulsating through the exhaust note, sounds like it's some sort of rotational mass. Maybe brakes? You said they were aftermarket. These bikes are engineered at such a high level, the slightest change in weight can throw off the balance of everything. I would start by focusing on anything that's not OEM bone stock components. Hope you're able to figure it out, you could really see how much you enjoyed the bike when you first started your ride before it started doing it again. Now the bike is adjusting itself because it is a smart bike. Then when you make changes the bike is also still making adjustments. You opened up a can of worms. One thing leads to another.

And the carbon wheels aren't made for street riding, track only. Bumps and rocks will destroy the carbon. You can't inspect carbon just from looking at it. Most damage is inside, within the carbon weaves. Get rid of them and get the forged wheels. That rear rim is gonna fail and cause you to crash. I've seen it happen.
